| The Vienna International Airport is located in Schwechat, about 20 kilometers southeast of Vienna. It is a medium-sized modern airport, with many shops, bars and restaurants. All major airlines operate there, as well as some newer, budget airlines. There are quite a few ways to get to and from the airport, even if one doesn’t have a car. Vienna Airport Lines operates a bus shuttle service which leaves from Schwedenplatz and stop at some other locations in the center of Vienna. Eurolines operates a bus service from the U3 station Erdberg. These buses take about 25 minutes to reach the airport. The S-Bahn (express train) leaves from Landstrasse and Praterstern and takes between 25 and 35 minutes to get to the airport. The fastest and most modern way is the CAT (City Airport Train) which leaves from Landstrasse and takes you directly to the airport in 16 minutes. While the CAT, which costs €9 each way, is the priciest of these options, it has one advantage: people with CAT tickets can check-in their luggage and get their boarding passes directly at the Landstrasse station. This means that there is very little in the way of carrying heavy bags and waiting in line at the airport. Rather, with your bags checked in safely before you board the CAT, you can go directly through security and do a little shopping, or leisurely enjoy a stress-free drink before your boarding your flight. |
